Game Canon Itself:
The Complicated Plot of Pikmin + The Extremely Difficult Plot of Pikmin II
And Then:
After the events of his two video games, Captain Olimar decided he needed something new in his life. So he packed up his wife and children and took off for parts strange and unknown on an entirely new planet. They moved into a nice suburban home outside of Final Destination City. It was on a culdesac and had a garden in the backyard and everything. which was great for continuing his research. He had brought back samples of Pikmin seeds and candypop flowers from his journeys that he could set up right there. Truly this was an ideal, as he would use these things in some of his future lessons! He’d taken up a position of biology teacher at one of the highschools in FDC, afterall— the prestigious (???) Smash Academy.
As a result of taking some of the Pikmin he had sprouted at his home to school, some of them got adopted by other students. Much to Olimar’s surprise, they were able to ‘humanize’ like some of the other attendees of Smash Academy. Wow they became students. Wow.
WELL. GOSH. GOLLY. GEE. At that point what was keeping any other Pikmin from going and becoming students? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
In actual Game Canon, Olimar and the Pikmin were roughly a centimeter or three tall. This was adjusted in the Smash Academy setting to reflect their size in Brawl and subsequent titles in the series. The Pikmin in their plant forms are similar in size to their real life plush counterparts, roughly about as tall as a hand. (Give or take depending on the size of your hand and which kind of Pikmin we are talking about, as they vary in size.)
Smash Academy, the Setting:
The game was inspired and heavily influenced by the Smash Brothers game series. It was a Highschool RP at its core, though it did evolve to include a university and expanded on its setting. The game initially started as an almost AU setting, naturally becoming semi-jamjar over the course of its life. Some students actively chose to enroll at school, some just appeared. Some could take the train to go home during summer break, some players opted to say theirs could not.
Smash Academy was one of the city of Final Destination’s finest and brightest schools, rivaling the other schools of Capcom High and Squeenix Academy. It was headed by the esteemed Headmaster Hand, along with his more dubiously esteemed brother Crazy Hand, and boasted a strong curriculum for making the strongest fighters… or thereabouts.
The school had a wide array of students from all sorts of worlds and all sorts of walks of life-- if you didn’t have opposable thumbs or the means to talk, or were simply just TOO BIG for Smash, the academy certainly had solutions for you! Classes were just as likely to be taught by a Pokemon gone human as they were to be attended by such students, for example. Robots could gain flesh, should they desire. Characters had many options to learn this skill: some used items, Pokemon could use a school-issued HM, other characters took a class to learn how to harness the ability on their own power. But many also chose not to use these new options, since they got along just fine without them.
The Academy was a sprawling campus, with dormitories for both students and faculty, an extremely sophisticated stadium that could generate different stages and scenarios for its users, an impressively massive library, a greenhouse, expansive science wings, etc. Final Destination itself was a bustling hubworld that seemed to connect countless worlds and times with little rhyme or reason as to how it worked.
❥ CRAU?:
There were a whole lot of events and things that happened at Smash Academy that helped how the game went, as is what happens at game, but I’m only going to focus on what went on in Vianca’s sphere of the world for all of our sakes B’D
❀ Olimar Garden + Arrival at Academy
Vianca was one of the first pikmin that sprouted in Olimar’s garden. She was curious about everything, and often snuck into his house to look at all his books and notes and things like that. After she learned that so many pikmin were just staying at the school Olimar worked at, she decided to go see the school for herself. It might have been dangerous! She was surprised to see so many had taken on human forms, and even more surprised that she could do it herself. Figuring she could be more useful to her family as a person, she stayed to learn how to do just that.
❀ Early School Life - Treasure Hunting Club + Library + Sisters
Very early on, Vianca was much more involved with things than she was at the end of her Smash career (spoilers). She joined a Treasure Hunting Club, as her white pikmin eyes let her see things underground and it felt good to find things. She engaged with her Sisters, the other pikmin, in their blossoming new hobbies and lives, even if she was starting to feel a little… left behind. Her solace from that feeling was her discovery of the library, and the librarian EVA whom she started to feel more attached to than Olimar who… didn’t really engage with the pikmin all that much.
❀ Aparoid War - Disobeying Olimar + First Aid + Knife Fight
At the end of the first year, there was a war. It was a huge event, with memory stealing aliens invading the land. The whole school was involved with trying to save the city and the world. The Pikmin were barred from participating, but the more fiesty sisters rebelled. They were starting to become independent, which was weird for Pikmin, and wanted to help. Vianca went to help and support them. It was during the war that she discovered she wanted to learn more about first aid and helping heal, when she couldn’t do much for one of her sister’s injuries. They also all learned that there was a time when Olimar had to leave Pikmin to die, or use them for Strategic Combos, via an Aparoid disguised as a mushroom pikmin that tried to shank him real good. Vianca had a knife fight! That sure went over well!!
❀ Vianca Leaves for a bit - Volunteering at Library and Pokemon Centers
The war was won but Vianca didn’t feel very good about. Things. She didn’t feel comfortable calling Olimar a Leader, and she felt lost about what to do about that. She left the school for a whilebecause Bret needed to cut down her cast load at the time whoops, trying to better herself with more knowledge. She volunteered at the city library so she could spend more time there, and helped out at the local Pokemon Center so she could start picking up some sweet nurse tips.
❀ She comes back! Redder than Before! Nurse Assistant to Rhys.
When Vianca did come back to Smash Academy, it was as a red Pikminbecause we had a one pikmin per color rule and someone had apped in as a white one whOOPS. She was taller, more obvious, and more… confident? Not really, but it was something to adjust to. It felt like she stuck out. With all her new knowledge though, Vianca officially became an assistant for the new school nurse, Rhys, and split her time between the office and the library.
❀ Freaks Get Out - The Quieting
One morning, a number of students were beaten and strung up on the school grounds with the words ‘FREAKS GET OUT’ for the whole student body and faculty to find. This was hot on the heels of a reknown pokemon team getting into a violent scuffle with a human-- it was a declaration of supposed tensions over human discontent with the nature of non-human’s parading around in human guises. The whole thing was fabricated just to see what would happen, which was. A lot of not good things.
Vianca was one of the ones strung up on display, damaged enough to revert her flower to a leaf stage. Already feeling like she was not a very good pikmin, the whole thing made her exceedingly self-conscious about her entire identity. She wasn’t a good pikmin, and she wasn’t a good person, and someone had noticed how badly she had been at either. She couldn’t even help Rhys help all these other students that were injured! What was the point of her being there! It pretty much became a mission after that to leave as little a presence as possible after that: She found a candy pop to become a white pikmin again, she only spoke if there was no other way to get her point across, and she pretty much moved into the library where she could hide in all its twists and turns. If she could become a ghost, she wouldn’t bother anyone.
❀ Everyone is Leaving - Take One
Through out this, all of Vianca’s close CR left. Her sisters went off to live their lives with their new families one by one. EVA would come and go, always promising she would say goodbye before she left but… never doing so, and never telling Vianca where she went or when she would be back. She never did come back.
Vianca kept the library in working order just in case she did though, so that there wouldn’t be anything to worry about. It got to the point where she finally just applied to be the Librarian, and the Headmaster said Yeah Go Ahead. She spent more and more time in the Library, but she would also still help Rhys whenever she could. He was trying to teach her white magic, and she was growing attached to him.
❀ Ai is Here - Makes friends with Caim + Gets Kidnapped + Mary Debacle Pt. 1
Ai the purple pikmin appeared! A very outgoing, extremely childlike pikmin with endless cheer that Vianca was very protective of, and also a bit envious of. She made friends with everyone very easily, and was a source of joy and softer moments of belonging. Ai’s friendliness and ability to charm Lots of People got her mixed up in all sorts of debacles though. She was kidnapped to lure out a murderer she was friends with?! She became friends with Mary from Ib and kinda accidentally found out about a nefarious plot where a sneaky deaky student was manipulating Mary to sell drugs and other such things. This led to Mary ripping apart Ai’s flower-- never a good thing for any flower child. Vianca helped her ease back into her leaf stage, but the purple min was sworn to secrecy on to who had caused the damage.
❀ WHEATLEY
Wheatley the Robot appeared at some point also. The sphere arrived with rails attached through out the library overnight-- somehow, he had become the librarian’s assistant. He was kind of… bad at it, but he did try very hard. The mismatch between an extremely talkative assistant and a mostly silent librarian actually worked very well, and Vianca found herself becoming fond of him. He didn’t mind that she didn’t talk much because it meant someone was listening to him, and she appreciated that she didn’t have to have a lot to say. Between him and Ai, Vianca started opening up a bit more again.
❀ Mary Debacle Pt. 2 - Mary’s Secret + Petal Plucking + Plot of Ib
At another point in time, Mary and Vianca met in the library while Vianca was reading the book about Mary’s painter’s works. They both saw the page about Mary, and before Vianca could assure her that she just thought it was neat, Mary ran off. Later on, after the incident with Ai, the two encountered each other again when a blackout/blizzard hit the school. Vianca was looking for Ai, and mentioned she might have been with her friend Garry. Mary assumed that Vianca then must have known everything, and decided to threaten her the same way she did Ai and ripped off some of Vianca’s flower petals.
Unlike her sister, Vianca did not stay quiet about the events. She announced it to the school as there were other flower-bearing students in attendance, and in doing so was approached by Garry whom felt responsible for everything. The announcement also let Ulki piece together some of the drug mystery that he had been investigating. Drug ring, busted! Vianca’s flower, not damaged enough to actually shift back to a healther leaf stage. At this stage, the only way she could think to do so would be to injure it further, and she was pretty certain she would not survive a second full shift.
❀ The Bloodening + Candypops
Life was kind of quiet after that for a while. At least until Captain Falcon’s evil clone (yes) Blood Falcon (yes) appeared at the Academy to, you know, do him a murder. The man was causing a ruckus in the library, and as the librarian, Vianca went to investigate. This ended incredibly poorly. The clone was unhinged and delighted in violence, so turning Vianca into a plaything was super appealing. Even more so when Wheatley appeared to try and help. The end result was his previously acquired robo-chassis getting busted, and Vianca in the hospital with a lot more ailments than a previously already injured Pikmin could handle.
She was acutely aware of the fact that probably she was dying, unless she could fix her flower. It sent her off on a quest in search of a Candypop Bud, the flower that had let her change forms before. There were no more at the green house, and Olimar had vanished years ago. With a little luck, she managed to find one with the help of a Jumpluff, and she became the pink winged pikmin she is today. Her flower was healed, and she gained the extra time she needed to make sure everyone that was counting on her was okay.
❀ The End
But then they all left. Ai went away. Rhys and Ulki vanished without a word. Wheatley left to find himself, and never came back. Friends she’d had before had returned, but they didn’t know her at all anymore. She was effectively all on her own again.
And then the end times came. A blood red moon hung low in the sky for weeks. Wildlife began fleeing the area. The forest and lakes themselves were shivering in fear. The clocktower in the middle of campus changed, counting down to… something. Students and teachers were fighting bosses and earning strange masks. Vianca never got to learn what they were for. The last boss was a huge colossus that had been forced awake and sent to migrate, passing directly through the school and crushing everything beneath its feet.
The library wasn’t spared, and neither was she, but it was alright. No one noticed.
Then she woke up in Havenwell! Hooray!
❥ Personality:
The most immediate thing that anyone would notice about Vianca is that she is very quiet. She’s exceedingly quiet. Her voice is quiet, her presence is quiet, her expressions are quiet, everything is quiet. For a very long time, that was what she believed she was supposed to be. If she stayed quiet, no one would notice her, or how bad she was at… being.
Not knowing who she is or who she is even allowed to be is something that’s been following her for her whole tiny life. There’s a whole thing with having to grow up faster than her siblings-- she was the oldest, and was always reading so she clearly knew everything, so they always looked to her for support and guidance. It felt imperative then that she be that older figure, even if she didn’t know what she was doing or who she could turn to when she needed that support. They were able to explore and be the children that they were and discover what it meant to be themselves. They had all found someone to follow, which was what a Pikmin was supposed to do.
Vianca isn’t a good pikmin, as far as she can tell. She’s spent more time as a little girl than she has as a tiny plant, so she’s not even sure if she’s allowed to say that she’s a pikmin. She’d look at the grass pokemon that lived at the academy that had such a strong connection with nature and envy that belonging. Yet she’s most assuredly not a human by any means, and she still has the scars to remind her. If she isn’t a pikmin, and she isn’t a person, then who is she?
The search for that leads her to be more of an observer, because she just wants to understand what makes people who they are. People are interesting, baffling, and always surprising her. If she can understand them, maybe she can understand a bit more about herself. But despite everything, she’s not exactly shy. She’ll ask questions when she has them, and she won’t look away if people catch her staring. She’s just quiet, and awkward, and not the most socially graceful at times.
It doesn't help that she really doesn't emote, so it is hard to tell what she is thinking a lot of the time. It is mostly a conscious decision, but it's also just so ingrained into her at this point that she doesn't think about it that often. It was just one more mask to help her fade into the background when she didn't want anyone to see her. No one ever questioned it, so obviously it was fine. In a way it meant she wouldn't bother anyone, so it never changed. Catch her in an extreme state, however, and the mask does fall away.
When observations aren't enough, she turns to books. They’re quiet friends that she can turn to whenever she wants-- they don’t leave. She reads everything she can get her hands on, be it real or fiction. She likes to try and approach things rationally, and boosting her understanding of topics helps with that. However she does have a penchant for fantasies. Worlds with magic and fantastic creatures don’t seem that far fetched when so many students she knew were royalty or magic users on their own.
Overall, possibly more than understanding herself or even learning how to smile, Vianca really just wants to find a place she belongs. Every time she’d get close to someone and start to feel like maybe she’d found… something, they’d leave. Or they’d leave just to come back and forget her entirely. That was something she used to think would be better, if people could just forget she existed but that… she’s changed her mind about that.
She knows she doesn't want to be alone, but she never learned how to ask someone to stay. She never felt important enough to be allowed to do that.
She just wants to learn how to Be Someone. It didn't work the first time, but maybe this time she could figure out something different.
❥ Abilities:
✿ Canonly, all pikmin can carry at least 10 times their weight by themselves. This applies to winged pikmin as well, but as they traded off some of their weight for flight, that is not an extremely heavy load. They can work together to carry even greater objects, but she’s all on her own so! Mostly just flying around hovering books for her. Which… also applies to human form, though more about 3x. Just a stack of books that seems too heavy for her tiny noodle arms.
✿ Pikmin can change Pikmin types and abilities via a candypop bud, but that requires a candypop bud to be present. Maybe someday they’d exist with enough Dora and luck in the botanical gardens, but the actual type change would probably be a Canon Update. Her previous form changes were either for meta reasons (can only have one of each color pikmin at a time), or for dire circumstances.
✿ Pikmin Flowers
They happen in three stages: Leaf > Bud > Flower. Flowered pikmin are faster, more efficient, and can take a beating slightly better than Leafed pikmin. Leafed pikmin can reach a flowered state over time, or instantly using nectar grass. Their leaves and flowers are their primary respiratory system, so when Vianca's flower was damaged she was uh. Not Having a Good Time.
There is a flower in her hair as a girl that is her Actual Flower. It is very attached.
✿ RP gained: human transformation. She can turn into a little girl or back into her plant form at will. Primarily stays as a little girl though. She still has wings, but she usually hides them under her shirt and they are too small for her to fly as a person.
❥ Extras:
✿ Transformation Nerf: Since she is no longer in her wacky home of Final Destination where all the rules were set to “DO WHATEVER,” she’d probably have to conform to the rules of Aellyn and get in some good old physical contact every few days to maintain the ability.
✿ She has an Opt Out post for her Tiny Text and Approximate Knowledge of Many Things shenanigans. (The tiny text is likely to fade away if she has a chance to really get comfortable and rebuild any of her confidence.)
Did your character bring anything along (limit 3 items) with them?
✿ A small wireless communicator. (Won’t work.)
✿ A pouch stuffed to the brim with band-aids and bandages in various sizes.
✿ A keychain with the keys to the library and library office attached.
Which god will they choose to support?
Ohma would absolutely be first choice, but random is fine if balance is needed.
